Private park conservancy vote deferred til January

Vote to privatize Museum Park to be deferred, again

Miami Herald 10/19/15

A vote on whether to create a nonprofit conservancy and give it power to manage and redesign the 19-acre bayfront lawn was scheduled to take place Thursday. But Commissioner Marc Sarnoff signaled Monday morning that he intends to pull the item so that proponents have more time to work with the city’s Bayfront Park Management Trust, the semi-autonomous city agency that currently operates and maintains the park.

Plan to redevelop Miami’s Museum Park delayed by negotiations

South Florida Business Journal 10/19/15

Miami Commissioner Marc Sarnoff wanted the city commission to vote Oct. 22 to put the 30-acre park under the management of the Museum Park Conservancy, a proposed nonprofit group that would raise millions of dollars to fund redevelopment. The park is currently managed by the Bayfront Trust, a quasi-city agency. Sarnoff said the item was continued until the first meeting in January to give the Bayfront Trust time to negotiate with the conservancy, which is currently represented by the Miami Foundation. The trust wants to remain involved in the park in some capacity.
