Miami’s Urban Design Revolution

Once considered odd-ball by government leaders, the design thinking of Miami architect-urban planners Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk and Andres Duany is embedded in the city’s sweeping Miami 21 urban plan.  For more than three decades, the husband-and-wife business partners have been leading proponents — locally and nationally — of the New Urbanism, aimed at rededicating cities to walking and public transit, minimizing the need for cars and the sprawling suburbs built for them.
